Modelling courses tend to be very comprehensive and cover many different topics related to this career. Here are two of the most important topics you'll learn about during this type of course.
Money Matters
Modelling can be a highly lucrative career and one of the reasons why many people choose to become models is so they can earn as much as possible. During a modelling course, this topic will usually be covered in depth by the course leaders. For example, if you take this course, you'll learn about the different pay rates that are typically offered for each type of modelling (for example, editorial fashion modelling is usually more well-paid than catalogue modelling); this could be helpful if your goal is to generate a high income by being a model, as you'll know which kind of modelling you should try to pursue. You'll also be taught about modelling agencies' commission rates and how this will affect your earnings if you get modelling work via an agency.
Lastly, you'll be given advice on how to avoid spending too much of your own money when you're just starting out as a model; for example, the course leaders will warn you not to give any modelling agencies cash for signing you up (any organisation that asks you to do this is unlikely to be a legitimate modelling agency) and will probably recommend that you don't pay for professional photographs for your portfolio, but instead focus on getting signed to an agency, who will then handle the development of the portfolio for you.
Modelling Agency Interviews
Modelling courses will also normally cover the topic of modelling agency interviews and provide suggestions on how to give yourself the best chance of being signed by a reputable agency. For example, they'll tell you what to wear to interviews (you might, for instance, be advised to wear minimal or no make-up and simple but form-fitting clothes so that the interviewer can see the condition of your skin and facial features and get an idea of your body proportions) and will be shown on to create the comp card that you'll need to bring with you, that will contain important information, such as photos of you and your measurements.
Finally, they'll advise you on the questions you might want to ask the agency during the interview, such as details about their commission rates, the types of clients they tend to work with and the type of modelling jobs they would consider submitting your portfolio for.
